Facebook to Enable Better Business Communication with WhatsApp

Facebook recently announced that it could allow businesses to interact with customers using WhatsApp, a popular messaging service Facebook purchased in 2014 for $21.8 billion.

“We think that enabling that B2C [business-to-consumer] messaging has good business potential for us,” said David Wehner, Facebook Chief Financial Officer. “As we learn those things, I think there’s going to be opportunities to bring some of those things to WhatsApp, but that’s more longer term.”

With more than 800 million users, WhatsApp has grown rapidly since its inception in 2009. However, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has said previously that he is in no rush to transform services like WhatsApp into businesses until they hit 1 billion users, which could happen by the end of 2015.
