Blogging is one of the simplest ways to get your small business on the map. These days, practically everyone researches products and services on some form of search engine. By posting smartly optimized blogs, you can ensure you turn up somewhere on that search. One of the most frequently asked questions about blogging is this: how often should my small business post a new blog? Today, we’d like to give our thoughts on the ideal blogging frequency.

There is No Magic Blogging Frequency

Let’s get this out of the way—the answer to this question will be different for everyone. There is no magic blogging frequency that is most beneficial or feasible for everyone to achieve. The one thing we can say with certainty about this is that you should aim for at least 3 to 5 blog publications per month.

The More, the Better

Another truism about blogging frequency is the following: the more often you blog, the better. Of course, it might not be feasible for small businesses to blog every day. Larger companies have seen success by doing so. Just do it as often as your resources allow. Generally speaking, once per week is fine.

The worst mistake you can make would be not to blog at all. Even if you can only post one blog per month, that would be better than nothing.

While it’s an admirable goal to post daily, be sure that you don’t compromise your content’s quality for the sake of a higher blogging frequency. Poorly written blogs won’t reflect well on your small business. Ensure not only that the content itself is thoughtful and relevant, but also that it is free of any minor mistakes.

We know—minor mistakes are minor. But even small errors such as grammatical mistakes and typos will make your blog look rushed. Software such as Grammarly may help, but it won’t catch everything. Only try to increase your blogging frequency if you feel confident you won’t make any concessions in quality.

Time Your Posting Smartly

The relevant question for small business blogging is not only how often you should post content, but also when you should do so. This has less to do with drawing in new audiences on search engines and more to do with keeping your current audience engaged in your content.

You are probably already familiar with the benefits of sharing your blogs on your social media pages. Before you do so, think about your target audience. What are their social media habits? Are they businesses who would be more likely to see the post during the week? Or are they businesspeople who don’t have time to look at social media until the weekend? Your target audience might also be students or young professionals, for whom timing is not nearly so important. They’re practically always checking social media.

You need to think about what you can do to maximize the odds of them viewing your content. If this means holding off on posting the content you’ve produced, then don’t hesitate to do so.
