Let’s go O’s! Today, Camden Yards will open its doors for the first home game of the season as the Baltimore Orioles take on the Minnesota Twins for Opening Day. Baseball season generates a ton of excitement in Baltimore and even though it’s a Monday, it should come as no surprise that the surrounding stadium establishments will be littered with massive orange crowds well before noon. Needless to say, baseball season presents several marketing opportunities for local businesses to spread brand awareness and connect with their audience in new ways. Let us elaborate.

98 Rock Bacon and Beer: The “O”Pening Day Edition

Baltimore is Birdland, and the early bird gets the worm… or beer, in this case. Local radio station 98Rock paired up with Pickles Pub downtown to get the party started early with a live broadcast, offering free breakfast and cheap beer from 5:30-10:00 a.m. As they cater to the early crowd, they will be giving away orange 98 Rock koozies and selling their new “Well Hell-O There” t-shirts.

O’s Day at Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A teamed up with the Orioles to offer “O’s Day at Chick-fil-A” this season, where fans wearing branded Orioles gear can stop into Baltimore area locations on specific game days and receive a free chicken sandwich. The promotion kicks off today, April 4, and free sandwiches will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. O’s Day at Chick-fil-A will also occur June 6, Aug. 22, and on another “Surprise O’s Day.” If you text “Chicken” to 31826, you will be notified of when the “Surprise O’s Day” is and have a chance to win an Orioles jersey.

Under Armour Gets in the Game

You may begin to notice an increase in the presence of Under Armour gear this baseball season. The Baltimore-based apparel company makes a share of the catchers’ gear, which The Baltimore Sun reporter Jeff Barker says is, “an important marketing tool because catchers and their equipment brands so often appear on camera during broadcasts.” Under Armour will likely continue to rival with Nike, Inc. for the MLB spotlight.
