4 Reasons Why Your Website Isn’t Showing Up on Google Search Results

It’s the new kid on the block.

If your website is new, it’s not going to rank highly. There are countless other websites out there that are already well-established in the rankings. Simply put, it’s going to take time for your website to make it’s way up in Google’s rankings.

It’s not properly optimized.

Thousands of blog posts have been written about this subject, but we’ll try to keep it short and sweet. A website needs to be optimized properly in order for Google search results to “read” it and determine what’s on it, and how relevant this content is to your search query.

The actual term for this is called crawling. Google sends out “spiders” (bots) that “crawl” (look at) your website and read the code on it to find out what it’s all about. If your site isn’t properly optimized, then the bots don’t get a ton of information out of it. This tells them that your website isn’t very relevant, and consequently, your website won’t rank very highly.

On a related note, your site might just not be very crawlable to begin with. Sites with a lot of Flash-based content are hard for the bots to read, and so are many of those do-it-yourself websites.

There’s not enough content, or the content you have is bad.

The more content you have, the better idea Google has of what your site is all about, and the better it will rank. If you only have a few pages with little content, your site is not going to rank highly.

The other potential issue is that you have content, but it’s bad content. Bad content includes things like duplicate content, where the same exact content is present on multiple pages, or copied from another website.

You’re competing for a highly competitive keyword.

The more niche your business/market, the better chance you have of ranking high in Google search results. If you’re in a saturated market, it’s going to be harder to rank for certain keywords.
