The Benefits of Blogging for your Business: Organic SEO

Blogging: everyone’s doing it. Should you? Unlike the age-old question your mother undoubtedly asked you at least once in your life – “if everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you?” –  the answer to the first question, the one about blogging, is Y-E-S! You should be blogging for your business.

For starters, blogging helps drive traffic to your website. And who doesn’t want more web-traffic. After all, that is why you have a website, right? You want to get your business out there. So you paid for this fancy new website, but no one seems to go to it. You have several options:

  1. You could pay for advertising, which can be rather expensive.
  2. You can invest in a pay-per-click campaign, which can also be a little pricey.
  3. You can start blogging.

Blogging does two things for your website, both of which are big hits with Google. First of all, blogging helps create new content, new pages, for your website. That’s another page that can be indexed in Google and found by potential customers when searching various subjects. Secondly, blogging shows Google that your website is being frequently updated and that the search engine should be checking in frequently to see what new content you’ve published. This is all part of what is known as Organic SEO (search engine optimization).

Blogging can also help your Social Media Following. Facebook, Google+, and Twitter users love nothing more than sharing new, relevant articles and other information. If you give people information that they deem worthy of sharing, it helps not only boost your web traffic, but also increase your social media likes and follows.

Blogging is also a great way to Generate Leads. Blogs typically end with what is known as a call-to-action. Basically, you present the reader with valuable information, then, at the end of the blog, you prompt the reader to contact your company “to learn more about…” or “for a FREE estimate…” You get the idea. A blog is a great way to generate leads and increase business.

Best of all, blogging leads to Long-Term Results. What do we mean? Well, let’s look at the facts. When you write a blog today, you may get a few views and a lead. The same may be true the next day, and the next, and the next. And when the blog begins to rank in Google, BING, and other search engines, you can reap the benefits of that single blog for days, weeks, months, and years to come.

Of course, remember that blogging takes time. You will most likely not see results overnight. It’s a process. If you need a refresher, read our previous blog on the subject, “The Not-So-Obvious Benefits of Social Media Marketing.” Even if you don’t see the value immediately, the benefits are there and they will only increase over time.
