Twitter Considers Adding Edit Button for 2017

If you’ve ever thought that Twitter could improve upon their product strategy, now’s your chance to share it! After borrowing the idea from Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey asked users in a tweet what the company can do to “improve or create in 2017”. Unsurprisingly, responses have flooded in. Some of the top requests include things like an edit button for tweets, a bookmark button, and better safety and reporting options for bullies.

Twitter Improvements Coming in the New Year

The good news for twitter users? Dorsey tweeted that Twitter is considering all of these things, even an edit-tweet functionality. He followed up by asking users, “Is it more important to edit for spelling/corrections? 5 minute window to edit mistakes or do you need to be able to edit anytime.” He then added, “We’re thinking a lot about it.” Dorsey also suggested that Twitter is still considering some other suggest ideas as well, such as a bookmarking tool, better threading for conversations, and multiple timelines based on people’s interests.

In the past, twitter has not offered an edit button, in large part because the company was concerned that tweets would be changed after extended periods of time and long after they’d already been embedded or used on varying parts of the web. On the other hand, rival platforms Facebook and Instagram have long offered the ability to edit content after it’s been posted. Still, allowing an edit option for at least a short time after publishing a tweet seems like a good compromise for many users.

Social media platforms are expected to see big changes in the year 2017. Keep your eyes peeled for the latest social media trends and their impact on content and marketing strategies.
