Adventure Web held its annual Halloween party at Rolling Road Golf Club on Wednesday, October 23rd. Employees and guests were invited to participate in a variety of activities and contests.

On Wednesday, October 23rd, Adventure Web’s employees gathered at Rolling Road Golf Club for this year’s company Halloween party. Upon arriving at the posh location, some partygoers initially questioned whether they were, in fact, supposed to attend in costume. All fears were allayed, however, once attendees entered the clubhouse to find coworkers and their guests decked out in their Halloween finest.

Socializing Around a Spooky Spread

Guests were surrounded by appetizers, drinks, and delicious dishes as they mingled.

As music filled the ballroom, guests were invited to grab a drink at the bar, fetch some hors d’oeuvres, and mingle with coworkers and their families. Among the more memorable offerings were impossibly-crispy chicken tenders and sweet, spiced, pumpkin pie-inspired shots. Children played around the open floor, and costumed coworkers conversed around tables, at the bar, and near the line of jack-o’-lanterns. After all, what Halloween party would be complete without a pumpkin carving contest?

Partygoers were invited to grab dinner from the buffet, and once seated, Adventure Web CEO Craig Kahl took to the microphone to emcee the pumpkin carving contest and say a few words. In his short speech, Kahl thanked everyone for their hard work, long hours, and dedication over the last few months. He also expressed pride at the growth that Adventure Web has experienced this year. Kahl’s message was met with applause, and voting for the pumpkin carving contest was swiftly underway.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Maria Wolfe, Customer Support Manager, combined two pumpkins to create this year’s winning jack-o’-lantern.

Adventure Web employees were invited to take part in a pumpkin carving contest, with the winner receiving a cash prize. Those who were interested received pumpkins to carve ahead of time, and the results were astounding. A common theme this year was horror — from snarling monsters to website error messages, the folks at Adventure Web captured a wide array of terror in orange, candle-lit relief.

Pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and subject matter lined a buffet table at the front of the ballroom, and Adventure Web COO Charlie Strouse assisted Kahl in proctoring the voting process. Strouse gestured at each jack-o’-lantern in turn, allowed the creator to introduce the piece, and told all attendees to cheer for the pumpkins they liked best. The winning jack-o’-lantern was an innovative dual-pumpkin sculpture carved by Customer Support Manager, Maria Wolfe.

Costume Contest

Costumes spanned a variety of themes, and folks examined the collection of entries for the pumpkin carving contest.

After the pumpkin carving contest, folks were encouraged to enter the costume contest. It seemed that most guests attended in costume, and their creations ranged from adorable to wacky. There were many costumes based on characters from television and movies, and some were inspired by time periods or ad campaigns. Some guests dressed up as coworkers, and others just threw on whatever they could find. Guests with costumes of all kinds lined up at the front of the ballroom for a vote-by-applause. At the end of multiple rounds of voting, Justin Kauffman and his family were declared victorious. Kauffman, the VP of Programming and Development, was dressed as Rex the dinosaur from Toy Story, and his family rounded out the group as Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie.

There was never a dull moment at this year’s Halloween party. Still, the moments of downtime provided precious opportunities for coworkers and their families to talk about things other than work. The stunning view of Baltimore from the clubhouse served as a breathtaking backdrop for jokes and lighthearted conversation. Although everyone was in costume that night, Adventure Web’s Halloween party encouraged us to laugh and talk with each other without the masks we wear in our daily lives.
