There’s a Right Place & Right Time for Social Media Marketing

Facebook Marketing, Social Media Marketing

Getting likes, shares, clicks and other social media engagement can be a tricky business.

There’s such a thing as a right place and a right time for marketing online? According to an infographic from QuickSprout, absolutely! In fact, perfect timing has a huge impact on the success of social media marketing. To add to the difficulty, each social media platform has its own times, and even days of the week, where users are most responsive. Yes, Facebook marketing is different from Twitter, Pinterest—you name it.

Thankfully, someone put the time into compiling this research for us, so we know when to tweet that hilarious video we took of our cat. Seriously, the world needs to see it. It’s funny. Really!

…Alright, fine, here’s the scoop on social media posting timeframes:

Facebook

The kingpin of digital platforms can tell you a LOT about user engagement. If you can learn how to master Facebook marketing, you’re golden. It’s not easy, but we can at least give you a head start. Facebook users are most responsive:

  • On Thursdays and Fridays.
  • Content posted at 1pm (in your target audience’s time zone) is more likely to be shared.
  • Content posted at 3pm tends to be clicked more.
  • Otherwise, any time between 9am-7pm is generally best.

Twitter

Having trouble scoring more than a few favorites and retweets on Twitter? They definitely make marketing online difficult with that frustrating 140-character limit. Still, tweeting during these days and hours will help get your 140 characters out there:

  • Weekdays are best for B2B (business-to-business) tweets.
  • Tweet on weekends (and Wednesdays, for some reason) for B2C (business-to-consumer) topics.
  • 12pm and 6pm see the highest CTR (click-through rates).
  • Post content at 5pm to get the most retweets.

LinkedIn

Though not often thought of as a traditional digital platform, LinkedIn is currently the best agent for B2B social media marketing. So if you really want to reach your B2B audience, you should:

  • Post on Tuesdays between 10am and 11am.
  • Wednesdays and Thursdays are also good days to post; Monday and Friday are not.
  • For posting on days other than Tuesdays, try 7am-8am and 5pm-6pm.

Pinterest

How would anyone ever find recipes or DIY craft ideas without Pinterest? Pinterest has become extremely popular over a considerably short period of time. To make sure your pins show up during everyone’s weekly “pinteresting site” search, take advantage of the following days and times:

  • Pinterest has one really good day for marketing, and that’s Saturday.
  • Pin around 8pm-11pm for the most engagement.
  • Activity seems to peak around 9pm.

Instagram

Apparently, there really is no fool-proof way to get more than 20 likes on your Instagram cat video—nothing new there. According to the infographic, the app’s engagement stays pretty much the same every day of the week. And while most companies post to Instagram between 3pm-5pm, the time of posting itself doesn’t seem to have much impact. We knew it wasn’t our fault no one was liking our cat video.

Google+

One of the newer players in the game, Google+ has become an increasingly useful means for social media marketing. Their optimum days and times for posting are pretty straightforward:

  • Share updates during the work week: Monday through Friday.
  • Around 9am-11am sees the most activity for engagement.
